Associate Lawyer 

Beamish Law is hiring an associate lawyer with 3-6 years’ experience.

We are a collegial, social justice-focused boutique firm with a diverse and interesting practice, and a particular focus on work with Indigenous clients (individual, governmental, and organizational) and other equity-seeking groups.

We require someone who:

  • is a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;

  • has 3-6 years’ practice experience, preferably with a significant portion of it in Ontario (experience in other jurisdictions will be considered if candidate can demonstrate capacity to quickly and effectively provide legal services in Ontario in at least two of our practice areas);

  • has practice experience with employment law, civil litigation, administrative law, not-for-profit law, and/or Aboriginal and Indigenous law;

  • meets high standards of care, ethics, and professionalism in their work;

  • has excellent advocacy, communication, strategic thinking, and legal research skills;

  • is able to work well under pressure, handle competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail with minimal supervision;

  • takes direction well and can work both collaboratively and independently;

  • is proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and PDF editing software;

  • has access to a private workspace, laptop, cell phone, and internet connection suitable for remote work; 

  • has a high degree of professionalism and an ability to positively represent the firm;

  • written and oral fluency in English;

  • is committed to helping us promote access to justice, provide inclusive and empowering legal services, and contribute to progressive change in society; and

  • can travel when required.

We prefer someone who:

  • has experience working with clients who belong to marginalized groups;

  • can demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in serving clients with limited financial resources; and

  • is Indigenous and/or has above-average understanding of the cultures and historical, legal, political, and socio-economic contexts of Indigenous People(s) in Canada.

  • an annual salary of $85,000-$94,000 depending on experience, skills, and working hours;

  • standard LawPRO premiums and Law Society of Ontario fees paid
