About Sidey
SIDEY DESKA-GAUTHIER
Sidey is a Summer Student with Beamish Law.
Sidey holds a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science, and is now attending the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. Before law school, she spent seven years in the Yukon working with First Nation governments to advance Indigenous self-determination through community-based research and socio-economic assessments of resource extraction projects.
Sidey is a co-investigator on a project funded by the Modern Treaty Implementation Research Project, through which she and a Yukon First Nation are examining the implementation of economic development provisions in their Final Agreement. She is also the co-author of a forthcoming book currently under review with UBC Press, and is published in the Journal of Canadian Studies.
EDUCATION
Sidey holds a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science and is currently a J.D. Candidate at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law.
PERSONAL
Sidey currently serves as President of the Deep Water Experiential Education Project, a non-profit organization committed to democratizing outdoor education and expanding access to land-based learning opportunities. She loves kayaking, mountain biking, and adventuring with her dog Balto.
